Waterfront Dining in Portsea

Eating with harbour views

The waterfront location of Portsea provides exceptional opportunities for dining with views over Portsmouth Harbour and the Solent. The concentration of restaurants, pubs and cafes along the harbour edge is one of the area's greatest assets, and waterfront dining has become a defining feature of the Portsea experience.

Gunwharf Quays offers the largest selection of waterfront dining, with restaurants and bars lining the harbour promenade. Tables on the outdoor terraces look out across the water to Gosport, with naval vessels, ferries and sailing boats providing a constantly changing foreground. The Spinnaker Tower rises above the complex, creating a dramatic backdrop particularly when illuminated in the evening.

The Hard provides a more traditional waterfront pub experience. The Bridge Tavern has a terrace directly overlooking the harbour, popular for its views of the comings and goings at the ferry terminal and railway station. The Ship Anson also offers harbour proximity.

Old Portsmouth, a short walk south, adds the celebrated Still and West at Bath Square, where the terrace looks directly onto the harbour mouth, and the Spice Island Inn on the Point. These venues offer perhaps the most dramatic harbour views of all, watching vessels pass at close range as they enter and leave the harbour.

Boathouse 4 in the Historic Dockyard provides waterfront dining in a restored Victorian boathouse, offering a more tranquil and architecturally distinctive setting. The combination of outstanding harbour views, varied cuisine and a range of price points makes Portsea one of the finest areas for waterfront dining on the south coast.
