Gunwharf Quays is one of the largest and most popular outlet shopping destinations on the south coast of England. The complex, opened in 2001 on the site of the former HMS Vernon naval shore establishment, contains over 90 outlet stores offering designer and high street brands at discounts typically ranging from 30 to 70 per cent off recommended retail prices.

The range of stores covers fashion, sportswear, footwear, accessories, homeware, beauty and lifestyle products. Well-known brands represented include Nike, Adidas, Gap, Levi's, Polo Ralph Lauren, Hugo Boss, Superdry, Ted Baker, Joules, Clarks and many others. The selection changes as brands open and close outlets, but the overall offering is substantial and varied.

The outlet format means that merchandise is drawn from previous seasons' stock, samples, overruns and lines produced specifically for the outlet channel. While not every item is a bargain, significant savings can be found, particularly on higher-priced designer goods. The stores are generally well laid out and staffed, and the shopping experience is enhanced by the waterfront setting.

Gunwharf Quays is laid out around pedestrianised courtyards and a harbour promenade, with the Spinnaker Tower providing a dramatic focal point. The complex is open daily, typically from 10am to 8pm on weekdays with reduced hours on Sundays. It is easily accessible by train to Portsmouth Harbour station, which is immediately adjacent, or by car to the on-site multi-storey car park. The complex attracts visitors from across the south of England and is particularly busy during sale periods and school holidays.
