Prince George Street
Street guide, Portsea
Prince George Street lies on the boundary between Portsea and Old Portsmouth, connecting the two historic areas. The street's royal name reflects the Georgian period during which much of this part of the city was developed. Prince George Street was historically a busy route linking the older walled town of Portsmouth with the newer settlement of Portsea, and it retains this connecting function today. The street contains a mixture of commercial and residential properties, with some older buildings surviving alongside post-war and modern developments. The street leads towards Portsmouth Cathedral and the heart of Old Portsmouth, while connecting northwards to the Portsea street network via Queen Street and Hampshire Terrace. It is a useful pedestrian route for those walking between the Historic Dockyard area and the cathedral quarter.
