Curzon Howe Road
Street guide, Portsea
Curzon Howe Road runs through the Flathouse area of northern Portsea. The name commemorates Admiral the Honourable Sir Assheton Gore Curzon-Howe, a prominent naval officer of the late Victorian and Edwardian periods who served as Commander-in-Chief, Portsmouth from 1907 to 1910. The naming of streets after naval figures was natural in a district so closely tied to the Royal Navy. The road passes through a residential area that has been rebuilt several times since its original Victorian layout was destroyed in the Blitz. Post-war housing estates and more recent development give the street a functional, modern character. Curzon Howe Road connects to Flathouse Road and Paradise Street, and provides part of the route through the northern residential section of Portsea.
