Anglesea Road

Street guide, Portsea

Anglesea Road runs south from Edinburgh Road into the Portsea area, forming one of the principal residential streets on the eastern side of the district. The street is named after the Marquess of Anglesey, a military connection typical of Portsea's street naming. The road contains a mixture of Victorian terraced houses, many of which have been converted into student accommodation or houses in multiple occupation, reflecting the strong influence of the nearby University of Portsmouth. Some of the terraces retain their original architectural details, including bay windows, decorative brickwork and tiled entrance halls. Anglesea Road provides a quieter, more residential alternative to Edinburgh Road for walking between the northern and central parts of Portsea. It connects to Museum Road and other residential streets in the eastern part of the district.
