Spinnaker Tower

Attraction, Portsea

The Spinnaker Tower is a 170-metre observation tower at Gunwharf Quays that has become the defining landmark of the Portsmouth skyline. Opened in 2005, the tower's form is inspired by a sail, referencing the city's maritime heritage. Three viewing decks at different heights offer panoramic views over Portsmouth Harbour, the Solent, the Isle of Wight and the South Downs. The highest deck includes a glass floor section for those with a head for heights. On clear days the views extend to the Needles on the Isle of Wight and the hills of Dorset. The tower includes a cafe and hosts occasional events including charity abseils. It is visible from miles around and serves as a navigational reference point for vessels in the Solent. Spinnaker Tower attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors each year.
