The Historic Dockyard Quarter

Portsmouth Historic Dockyard

Heritage, Portsea

Portsmouth Historic Dockyard is one of the most important naval heritage sites in the world, occupying a substantial area of the western Portsea waterfront. The site contains an extraordinary collection of historic warships, museums and original dockyard buildings spanning five centuries of shipbuilding and naval history. Visitors can explore HMS Victory, the Mary Rose Museum, HMS Warrior 1860, the National Museum of the Royal Navy and Action Stations. The dockyard buildings themselves are of great architectural interest, including Georgian storehouses, Victorian engineering workshops and the famous Block Mills where Marc Isambard Brunel installed the world's first steam-powered production line in 1803. A single ticket provides access to all attractions and is valid for multiple visits within a year. The dockyard is managed by the National Museum of the Royal Navy and draws hundreds of thousands of visitors annually.
