Portsmouth Harbour Station

Transport, Portsea

Portsmouth Harbour station is the terminus of two railway lines from London, one via Guildford and the other via Eastleigh, and provides a direct rail connection to the heart of Portsea. Opened in 1876, the station is built on a platform projecting over the harbour, placing arriving passengers within yards of the Gosport Ferry, the dockyard entrance and the approaches to Gunwharf Quays. This remarkable intermodal connection makes it one of the most conveniently situated stations in the country. South Western Railway operates services to London Waterloo, while Southern runs services via Brighton and the south coast. The station is busy throughout the year with commuters, tourists and naval personnel, and is particularly crowded during the summer visitor season.
