The National Museum of the Royal Navy is the principal museum of the Royal Navy and is headquartered within the Historic Dockyard at Portsmouth. The museum tells the story of the Royal Navy from its origins to the present day through an extensive collection of artefacts, paintings, ship models, weapons, uniforms and personal items. Galleries cover major themes including the age of sail, the two world wars, the Cold War and modern naval operations. The museum also manages the wider Historic Dockyard site, including HMS Victory and the Mary Rose Museum. Its collections are of national and international importance. The museum hosts temporary exhibitions, lectures, educational programmes and events throughout the year.
